Catholic Ceremonies: Roman Rite vs Independent Rite
By: Reverend Monsignor Michael K. Carroll, St. Patrick Abbey

The main difference of the various Catholic Rites of the Church is that not all of them are in Union with the Vatican, and are independent of the Pope's authority. All the Rites are Valid and have Authentic Apostolic Succession of Holy Orders to being Ordained as a Deacon, Priest, or Bishop and are recognized by the Vatican as "our Separated Brothers". Some of these Rites of the Church date back as early as the year 100, but were rejected from the consolidation efforts of early Church Fathers of these many different catholic communities of Catholicism, which developed over time, to become known as the "Latin Rite" of the Church (commonly called today as Roman Catholic) and called by the Latin Rite, as Sysmatic. The most distinctive and different approach of the Independent Rites are that they are welcoming and inclusive "of everybody" and are Ecumenical. This means that all denominations are respected and accepted as the Mystical Body of Christ. For couples wishing to get married, we offer an approach that is both creative and customized to the wants and desires of the couple in planning your wedding. Officiating at your ceremony, we help you express what you mean to each other in a meaningful way that is special and Spiritual, on your big day. This is regardless of your background, faith, culture, or tradition. The translation of the word “Catholic” means UNIVERSAL, which means we support  everyone where they are in life, to help celebrate love, commitment, loyalty, and the Sacredness of their wedding day. Be in touch with us to assist you in the most important day of your life.
